Mon, 05/29/17, 44th of 50 Days of Easter, Memorial Day, "Day of Praise"
John 15:13 - "[Jesus said,] 'Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.'"
As we take time this Memorial Day to thank God for the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and the freedoms we enjoy, let's remember that Christ, who made the ultimate sacrifice for the spiritual freedom of every nation, was raised from the dead to pour out his life everyday to set people free.
As my wife, Amanda, and I are away in Tennessee with two of our three kids for the 100th anniversary of the church I grew up in, we got to hear John Sparks, son of Pastor Lemuel C. Sparks, who was my pastor when I was a kid. John recounted his dad's service in WWII and the many who gave their lives to preserve the freedoms we enjoy in this that is the greatest nation in the world.
Such testimonies remind and inspire us that we can lay down our lives for others because 1) others have poured out their lives for us, as we celebrate today on this Memorial Day, and 2) Jesus Christ, crucified and risen, continues to pour out his life for us everyday!
To God be the Glory!
Praise God!
