"Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil." - Proverbs 15:16
Some things are strange.
Some things are wonderfully strange.
I didn't go looking for today's verse. It's a long story, but the verse presented itself to me.
And the reason that's wonderfully strange is because a number of people in my life have actually been talking about the substance of today's verse recently.
And guess what?
They all agree. It's true! "Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil" (Proverbs 15:16).
It's not that wealth is bad, in and of itself, just as Jesus makes clear in the parable of the talents. The one who humbly, skillfully, and faithfully manages much wealth is always praised above the one who greedily, carelessly, and haughtily manages little.
The issue is what are you having to do to get wealth? And to keep it? And to protect it? And to manage it? If whatever you're having to do is causing great turmoil in your life, then you might want to ask yourself if your life would be better with less.
And if your life would be better with less, then that's ok because God's word says, "Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil" (Proverbs 15:16).
Praise God!
