"And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased." - Hebrews 13:16
When I was a teenager, I would go to sleep trying not to forget all the things that I had to do the next day. I had all sorts of mnemonics, all sorts of learning techniques to aid my information retention.
For example, I'd come up with a word where every letter was the first letter of something I had to remember. So BALL might be the following: B for Bug guy is coming, A for Ask if anyone has large concrete planters, L for Look for Conner at his wax museum, and L for Lay out money for Camille's Special Equestrian fund raiser.
Sometimes I'd forget my word or forget what the letters stood for.
You'd think I'd just write it down, eh?
But actually I didn't want to write stuff down because I remembered how a Dale Carnegie book said that using your memory makes your memory better.
So let's all improve our memory by using it. Here's the incredibly short list of fifteen things that God tells us not to forget. (So they must be the most important!)
Don't forget:
1) The Lord - Deuteronomy 6:12 and 8:11
2) God has cleansed you from past sin - 2 Peter 1:9
3) God's decrees and precepts - Psalm 119:83 and Psalm 119:141
4) God's law - James 1:25
5) The covenant that God made with you. - Deuteronomy 4:23 and 2 Kings 17:38
6) The helpless - Psalm 10:12
7) The lives of your afflicted loved ones - Psalm 74:19
8) The teaching of God the Father - Proverbs 3:1
9) The things of the LORD that your eyes have seen. - Deuteronomy 4:9
10) The words of God - Proverbs 4:5
11) To blot out things that turn you from the Lord - Deuteronomy 25:19
12) To do good and to share with others - Hebrews 13:16
13) To look ahead - Philippians 3:13
14) To show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. - Hebrews 13:2
15) With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. - 2 Peter 3:8.
May Almighty God, who never forgets us, help us to never forget his short list of things to remember.
Praise God!
