Th, 12/26/13, 2nd Day of Christmas, "Day of Praise"
"The ox knows its owner, and the donkey the manger of its lord, but Israel does not know, my people do not understand." - Isaiah 1:3
We all need to eat. However, in today's verse, God says that in our weakness, frailty and sin, we don't know where the food is. But this 2nd Day of Christmas celebrates that God is determined to feed us.
A manger is a feeding trough, and the donkey knows that the manger is where his master puts his food. When Jesus is born and laid in a manger, God our Master is telling us that Jesus is our food. What kind of food? Bread. "Bethlehem" (where Jesus is born) literally means "house of bread." And Jesus tells us plainly that he is the "Bread of Life."
So eat up people; feast on Jesus by receiving him daily into your being. Apart from Jesus, we might eat lots for our belly. But Jesus alone feeds our soul!
Praise God!

"The gospel is the story of Jesus [what God's only Son has done for us that we can't do for ourselves], spoken as a promise." - Robert Jenson
