Day of Praise

Tu, 11/05/13, "Day of Praise"

"This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." - Psalm 118:24

A few thoughts from God's Word and God's world so you can have a day of rejoicing and gladness.

1) Be quick to listen and slow to speak! "Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry" (James 1:19).

The pro football player who recently cursed and threatened his teammate is a good example of the ill things that come when we don't heed God's counsel.

2) Work together! "Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love" (Ephesians 4:15-16).

Have you ever watched a millipede? I saw a beautiful one at church last night. Amazing creation by God! A gazillion legs reminding us to work together!

3) Look on the bright side! "If I say, 'Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,' even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you" (Psalm 139:11-12).

My mom said I could pass along our little exchange last night on the phone. One said, "How are you doing?" The other said, "Well, the Cardinals lost (in pro baseball); Dobyns-Bennett lost (in high school football); Tennessee lost (in college football); and Jeff Gordon lost (in auto racing)." The other one said, "Well, the Cardinals did make the World Series; Dobyns-Bennett is in the playoffs; Tennessee is getting better; and Jeff Gordon already has plenty of money." Look on the bright side!

Praise God!
